How is HPV transmitted?
ASK AN EXPERT
[.highlighted] Q: Dear Teal, [.highlighted] I am hearing more and more about HPV. Sounds like it is very common. How is it transmitted?
HPV is a sexually transmitted infection (STI). It is most commonly transmitted from one person to another through vaginal, anal, or oral sex.
It is often asymptomatic, making it very easy to pass on to someone else without knowing.
Using condoms/barrier methods can help reduce this risk, but will not protect 100%, as any exposed skin can transmit the virus. So be proactive with your health and stay up-to-date on your HPV screening. Please check with your provider if you are unsure when you are next due for HPV testing.
